The storyline in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 has begun to diverge from the books, just as the show creators have explained to the fans many times in the past. But, the editor of the books and some of the fans of the franchise are not happy about the changes. [Spoiler alert]

Jane Johnson, the editor of the books written by George R.R. Martin, is apparently not happy about the changes seen in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. The TV series was created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and the show is based on the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” WinterisComing has compiled a set of tweets by Jane Johnson about how she felt about the divergence in the show.

“Game of Thrones” Season 5 has gone “completely rogue now,” Jane Johnson said in one of her tweets. She was particularly unhappy with the way the character Loras was portrayed in the TV series. She described his characterisation in the TV series as a “gay cartoon” and felt that the character was much more “nuanced” in the books.

The editor was also not happy to see the possible death of the character Barristan in the recently aired “Sons of the Harpy” episode. The character is still alive in the books and will be leading the troops in a major battle against the Yunkai in the upcoming book “Winds of Winter.” The author of the book series had teased a sample chapter of the character previously.

When some of the fans pointed out that George R. R. Martin is one of the producers and “decides” what goes on in the TV series, Elio and Linda of the Westeros website joined the conversation. Elio M. Garcia and Linda Antonsson have co-authored a book with George R.R. Martin called “The World of Ice & Fire,” which is based on the same world as the TV series.

Elio and Linda pointed out that George R. R. Martin has previously said that his role is only advisory in nature and if “HBO wanted aliens to invade,” in the TV series, “he couldn’t stop them.” “He doesn’t have the power to do it,” read one of their tweets. They were also unhappy with Barristan falling in “Game of Thrones” Season 5.
