'Game of Thrones' Season 6: Carice Van Houten denies Jon Snow speculation; teases Melisandre 'transformation'
Carice Van Houten talked about the fan theory involving Melisandre and Jon Snow in “Game of Thrones” Season 6. The actress is currently busy promoting her new movie “Race,” which is based on a true story of Jesse Owens in the 1936 Olympics.
[Spoiler alert]
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Houten (Melisandre) was asked to confirm or deny the fan theory that her character will be the one to resurrect Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the next season. “I will completely deny that,” Houten said.
Even though Melisandre is back at Castle Black, the actress pointed out that her character hasn’t brought anyone back to life before. She said that she understands where the theories are coming from and acknowledged that Melisandre’s religion does have that power.
But Melisandre herself has “lost her faith a little bit,” Houten said. When she returns to the castle, her facial expressions convey the fact that the battle between Stannis (Stephen Dillane) and the Boltons did not end well.
However, Houten’s comments need not necessarily reflect the events in “Game of Thrones” Season 6. After commenting on the resurrection of Jon Snow, the actress was quick to say that she can practically say anything at this point of time, even if it is not true. “I can say that I kill everyone,” Houten joked in the interview.
Explaining the mindset of her character, Houten said that Melisandre realises that she can be really cruel sometimes, but she can’t succumb to emotions. Melisandre can see a bigger war coming to Westeros and she can’t be worried about these little wars that the self proclaimed kings are waging against each other.
Houten revealed that “Game of Thrones” Season 6 is her favourite because of what it means for her character. The actress said that the audience will get to see “something’s changing in her” after the events of the previous season.
