Original air date on HBO: Sundays at 9 p.m.
The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” (GOT) is about to end. That said, fans of the hit HBO TV series will be happy to know that the finale episode, titled “Battle of the Bastards,” will be longer than usual.
Spoiler alert! This article contains “Game of Thrones” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.
The final episode of GOT Season 6 will be 69 minutes long, Entertainment Weekly says. More so, the extended run time does not only apply to the last one, but also to the second to the last episode “Battle of the Bastards.” “Game of Thrones” episodes usually average at 55 minutes.
The penultimate episode’s title already gives viewers an idea on what it is about. This insinuates that the bastards Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) would have a face off. Their upcoming battle has been teased throughout the season, where Ramsay kept on sending letters to invite Snow to engage in a fight. Jon, in return, has been rallying troops to prepare for war and to get his brother Rickon (Art Parkinson) back, whom Ramsay is keeping hostage.
Show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss hinted that Season 6 will showcase the biggest battle in the TV series’ history. This could be it. “Battle of the Bastards” will air on June 19 and will run for a full 60 minutes.
The long show time may be needed since there are a lot of story arcs that the show needs to close off before the season ends. There is no description yet for both episodes other than their running time. However, fans may expect conclusions for the problems that main characters have been facing for the whole season.
The finale episode is titled “The Winds of Winter.” This gives acknowledgement to George R. R. Martin’s upcoming sixth novel in the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” The final episode is expected to run for 69 minutes, which would be the longest in the show’shistory. It will air on June 26. “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter” are both directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who also led last year’s episode “Hardhome,” Winter is Coming reports.
The next episode on “Game of Thrones,” titled “No One,” airs on June 12 at 9 p.m. on HBO. It also airs on Foxtel in Australia.
