'Game of Thrones' Season 6: Robert Render joins cast; Ian Beattie talks about 'nasty side' of Sir Meryn
The deaths of some of the major characters of “Game of Thrones” made room for more characters to be introduced in Season 6. Robert Render has joined the cast of the movie, playing an unspecified role in the popular fantasy TV series.
Premier Artists , the acting agency based in Belfast, announced on their official website that Render has been cast in the popular TV series. The actor also confirmed the news on his Facebook page, but he did not reveal details about his character on the show.
The actor said that he was “sworn to secrecy” and he can’t reveal anything about his role. Render will be filming for three days this week and remarked that it has been a good year for him in his acting career so far. The actor played a minor role in the second episode of the very first season of the show and since then, he has been a part of a few TV series like “Ripper Street” and “Scúp.” He has also worked in the forthcoming horror movie “The Blood Harvest.”
Meanwhile, Ian Beattie (Meryn Trant) spoke about a major death scene in the previous season of “Game of Thrones.” In an interview with The Wall Street Journal the actor talked about how executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss informed him about showing a “nasty side” to his character in the previous season. [Spoiler alert]
Meryn died a brutal death at the hands of Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). Beattie revealed that when the producers called him to say that his character was going to die, they hinted at what the scene was going to be like. The actor had assumed that his character was going to kill a few people.
Beattie, however, ended up working with child actors in his final scene and it was to show how his character was a sadist who obtained pleasure by beating up little girls. The actor revealed that the young girls on the set were “looked after” and their parents were there to watch the filming on the monitors.
Although Meryn was seen hurting the girls in “Game of Thrones,” Beattie apparently didn’t touch any of them. The actor said that the filming was done “very carefully” and he was “grateful” for it. This, however, didn’t stop him from taking breaks during filming to go to the bathroom and “burst into tears.” He described the scenes as “difficult” because he has three boys back home and knew what it was like to be a father.
