'Game of Thrones' Season 7 production update: Sweden loses out to Norway
HBO has reportedly decided to not film any scenes of “Game of Thrones” Season 7 in Sweden. There is, however, still the possibility of filming in the country in the future. This year the production team is looking at locations in Norway.
Visby, on the island of Gotland in Sweden was previously being considered as one of the locations for the show. However, Watchers on the Wall reports that the plans for filming in the country have been dropped. The lack of tax breaks is said to be the reason for the decision.
Norway on the other hand is said to be having the tax breaks the producers are looking for. Filming locations in the country have still not been revealed.
Meanwhile, the filming in Spain continues. According to a report by Winter is Coming, filming in the city of Seville will begin on Nov. 8. The city is said to be in lock down at the moment, as the production team prepares to film “Game of Thrones” Season 7.
Security around the sets of the popular TV series appears to have been increased. Some of the filming is set to take place below the ground and there have been fences set up around the perimeter to prevent people from taking pictures or videos. Many of the big moments on the show have already been revealed to the fans in the form of leaked pictures and videos in the past few weeks. This may have prompted the security team to take additional measures.
Another filming location in Spain where “Game of Thrones” Season 7 will be filmed soon is the Royal Shipyards in Seville. The gardens of the Teatro de la Maestranza that are close to the production set have reportedly been closed down to prevent anyone from taking pictures. The report notes that the security there will be like that of Fort Knox.
