'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers: Direwolf action confirmed
Production of “Game of Thrones” season 7 has reportedly shifted to Canada, with at least one major cast member taking part in the filming. There is now confirmation that the fans will get to see more direwolf action on the show this time around.
The following article contains minor spoilers from the next season of the popular HBO TV series. Fans who do not wish to know what happens on the show next are advised to stop reading.
According to a report by Watchers on the Wall, filming is currently taking place for the show at Calgary, Canada. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) is said to be there. What is more interesting is that the producers have hired a few wolves to film at the same time.
Fans are already familiar with the white wolf Quigley, which has been playing the role of the direwolf Ghost. There is a second wolf that is said to be involved in the filming this year. The report speculates this to mean the return of Nymeria in “Game of Thrones” season 7.
The report appears to confirm the leak about Arya reuniting with her direwolf after many years. It is not clear if there were only two wolves used during filming or if more were hired.
The filming involved the use of a green screen. The wolves will first be filmed against the green screens, and will later be scaled up during the post production phase of development. By this, the relatively small wolves will appear as huge direwolves on the show.
As the crew will be using a green screen, the report suggests that Williams need not be physically present with the wolves for the scene. The actress can film her scenes separately against green screen, and the wolves will be digitally added later.
Since the filming is taking place in Canada, the reunion of Arya and Nymeria, if that’s indeed the direwolf, should take place in the North. Williams’ character is already in Westeros, and was last seen at the Twins. The character may now make her way to her ancestral castle at Winterfell.
Arya has been searching for her family for a long time now, always reaching a little late. So, the Stark family reunion should be a highly dramatic and emotional one for everyone.
Filming for some of the cast members has already wrapped. So, “Game of Thrones” season 7 is in its last leg of production. HBO is yet to announce an exact release date for the new season.
