George buys Amal Clooney restaurant as wedding anniversary gift; to open London sushi eatery
George Clooney has reportedly splashed £300,000 (approximately AU $640,000) for a restaurant as a first wedding anniversary gift for his wife Amal Clooney. And in keeping with the tradition of a paper gift for a couple's first wedding anniversary, George handed his wife the documents for a sushi restaurant.
“Amal loves the Asanebo sushi restaurant near their LA home. She always complains there’s nowhere as good in London, so since last year George has been in talks with the head chef and owner Tetsuya Nakao (owner and head chef of Asanebo) about opening a London branch,” a source told Britain’s Now magazine.
The Hollywood heartthrob, who is believed to have dished out millions for rent and equipment, wanted to make sure that his wife could always have access to their favourite dishes when she was at home in London. The A-list couple enjoy relaxing together over a good meal, so the actor decided to splash out for an entire restaurant for his British-Lebanese wife, Belfast Telegraph reported.
The “Monuments Men” actor will have an important role in finalising the menu, and reportedly wants to make sure that his 37-year-old wife will have everything she could wish for when she visits the eatery, including all of her favourite dishes. These picks include halibut sashimi with truffles, Brussels sprouts salad with seared scallop, hamachi with seaweed and cod lettuce wrap. Of course, the very best fresh fish should always be available too, the insider added.
Tetsuya is a good friend of Clooney’s, and both believe the restaurant will be a successful business venture.
George and Amal celebrated their first anniversary at their favourite Asanebo restaurant in Los Angeles, West Hollywood in September. Over a romantic sushi dinner, the “Tomorrowland” actor handed over his thoughtful gift to his wife. The source said that Clooney’s gift was unorthodox and his wife loved it, Irish Independent reported.
