The 'Gilmore Girls' men: Matt Czuchry on his new role & why Chad Michael Murray was missing from the revival
Ever since Netflix released the four-part revival season of “Gilmore Girls,” entitled “A Year In the Life,” fans have had two particular questions in mind, which actors Matt Czuchry and Chad Michael Murray may have just answered. These are: Will there be another season and why did the producers use a different actor to portray the infamous Tristan Dugray?
The cast and crew of “Gilmore Girls” have been relatively quiet about the possibility of another season, but Czuchry is not waiting around for that to happen. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he has already signed up for a medical show from Fox, “The Resident.”
The project follows an idealistic young doctor, Conrad Hawkins, as he works under the supervision of a brilliant but tough senior resident. Conrad’s mentor then shows him the good and evil of modern-day medicine. The drama of saving and losing lives will be highlighted by the expectations set on doctors and the other characters. Joining Czuchry on set will be Manish Dayal (“Agents of SHIELD”) and Bruce Greenwood (“Star Trek Into Darkness”).
And while Czuchry's new show is not proof about whether or not another “Gilmore Girls” season will be released, it does indicate that there are no plans in place. If Czuchry had been approached to star on another season opposite Alexis Bledel’s Rory Gilmore, his schedule would not have likely permitted him to sign up with Fox.
However, it should be noted that all this is speculation at this point. It is also possible that Czuchry’s role in “Gilmore Girls” will not be as heavy as it was previously and the actor could juggle between both sets. But until a member of the production team or cast goes on the record to say so, nothing is certain.
Meanwhile, there is one “Gilmore Girls” star that has spoken to the press to settle any doubt regarding his participation in the Netflix revival. Murray sat down with Entertainment Tonight and finally set the record straight about why he did not reprise his role in “A Year In The Life.” Fans will remember that his beloved bad boy character was mentioned and shown, but that it was not Murray on screen.
"I heard [the revival was happening] and I wasn't available at the time,” he said. “I'm pretty positive I was having a baby -- my first child." Murray further explained that the timing was just off and that he knew somebody else would be portraying him on the show. “You know, Tristan's secret was be that guy that every girl wants to be next to, but just isn't sure they should be and I heard he did it well.”
