'Girl Meets World' season 3 episode 6 recap and review: Lucas makes a choice between Maya and Riley; Shawn returns
In Season 3 Episode 6 of “Girl Meets World,” Lucas (Peyton Meyer) apparently has come to a decision who he wants to be with between Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). The episode, titled “Girl Meets Upstate” also presented the return of Shawn (Rider Strong) from the original series.
The episode highlighted comparisons between Shawn and Maya, who both had to go through identity problems while growing up with Cory and Riley Matthews, respectively. Both characters tried to imitate their best friends and realized that they were turning like them and losing themselves in the process.
Maya decided to let loose by throwing paint all over the place. The girls went to Shawn, who lived in a cabin in the woods, for advice and the latter shared how he wanted to be like Cory and have a relationship just like what the latter had with Topanga (Danielle Fishel). The girls noticed that Shawn kept a photo of himself with Katy, Maya’s mom.
Although Lucas seemed to have already come to a decision who he wishes to date between the two girls, Maya stopped him from revealing the name again. For Maya, she strongly believes that Lucas would still be picking Riley, since she has become Riley in several ways through the years. On the other hand, Riley does not feel the same way.
Some fans were disappointed at how the series seemed to be holding off the final resolution in the long-running love triangle among the friends. The showrunners previously stated that they will provide the right closure to the issue in the middle of the season, so that they can focus on other important matters that affect young teenagers today.
Shawn also proposed to Katy (Cheryl Texiera) during the episode. He arrived at Cory and Topanga’s apartment suddenly and asked Katy if she would marry him. The concept seemed quite forced, although it emphasizes how spontaneous Shawn can be at times.
“Girl Meets World” will air next on July 15, 2016 on the Disney Channel. It also comes out on Disney Channel Australia. More updates and details are expected soon.
