Bad news for Gleeks all over the world. Your favourite musical series over Fox will be off the air permanently after Season 6. Glee creator Ryan Murphy announced on Wednesday night the sad news, explaining the decision to end the series to Cory Monteith's unexpected death in July due to heroin and alcohol overdose.

"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story," Murphy said at the Paley Center in LA.

"I always knew that, I always knew how it would end ... I know what the last show was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was, she said it to him," he continued.

Murphy said when a tragedy such as Cory's death happens, it needs having to pause and figure out what to do next. "We're figuring that out now," he added.

While Cory's death have caused the unexpected end of the high-rating series earlier than planned, its third episode titled The Quarterback on Season 5, aired on Oct 10, which served as their tribute to Monteith, got 7.4 million viewers.
