Diane Lockhart and Lucca Quinn, both central characters in “The Good Wife,” will be re-appearing in the show’s planned spinoff. The details for the show is still under negotiation.

Rumours for a spinoff of the recently ended Emmy winning TV series are apparently true. Diane Lockhart is played by Christine Baranski and Lucca Quinn is portrayed by Cush Jumbo. “The Good Wife” creators Michelle and Robert King are said to be co-writing the first episode of the new series but will not run it. They are also in the final negotiations for the new show, the Hollywood Reporter states.

The uniqueness of this franchise is that it is not created as CBS’ regular airing show. It would only be available for the network’s all-access subscription, costing $5.99 per month. Viewers are looking forward to an upfront presentation on May 18 for the network to present a series order.

In the season finale of “The Good Wife,” Lockhart slapped Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies). This event insinuates the end of their planned all-female firm. Moreover, the ending made viewers doubt her marriage with Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole), especially after inquiries about his alleged infidelity rose.

In the end, Lucca and Dianne were both seen to be working in the same firm. These events are said to be written purposely by the writers to give space for a continuation into a possible spinoff series.

This move by CBS is deemed a good one for two reasons. First, it would extend the aura of “The Good Wife” in the network, which gave prestige to CBS after winning an Emmy award in May 8. Also, it would be the network’s second high-profile series for its premium all-access subscription. Business for the network is expected to develop positively with the creation of “The Good Wife” spinoff, Variety says.

The official title is yet to be announced, but production has reportedly already begun even before “The Good Wife” ended. Baranski is a popular choice for lead characters in many planned TV shows, but the actress has reportedly turned them down to make way for this new series. She is also known for her recurring character as Dr. Beverly Hofstadter in “The Big Bang Theory” and as Victoria Hartley in “Ugly Betty.”
