'The Good Wife' season 7 spoilers: Josh Charles to re-appear in the finale; Christine Baranski speaks out on Diane's relationship with Alicia

There are four more episodes in Season 7 before “The Good Wife” officially goes off the air. There are rumours that Will Gardner (Josh Charles) will return in the season finale. Actress Christine Baranski also talked about her character’s relationship with Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies).

TVLine reveals that there is a possibility that Josh Charles will reprise his role as Will Gardner in the final episode on May 8, 2016. Since the character already died in Season 5 Episode 15, Gardner will appear in a flashback. Gardner was Alicia’s former lover and asked her to go away with him. Alicia said no at the time to support her husband Peter (Chris Noth), and was devastated and regretted upon learning that Will died. She believed she could have done more and that he would not have died if she went with him.

Charles actually returned in Season 6 to direct an episode. When CBS announced in February 2016 that “The Good Wife” Season 7 would be the last, Charles congratulated the cast and crew on Twitter, stating that the show had a great run and that he was proud to have been a part of it.

In other “The Good Wife” news, Christine Baranski, who plays Diane Lockhart, also shared some details about her character’s relationship with Alicia. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Diane became a mentor to Alicia and also helped her get through Will’s death. She said that she was glad to have avoided the cliché of playing the bad boss towards Alicia. She said that it was good to have tension between Diane and Alicia, but they were always mature enough. She shared that her character was a good role model for women who are strong and have challenging but good marriages at the same time.

Baranski continued that she will miss Diane’s intellect and how she handles legal arguments while staying ethical. It was interesting to see how a strong woman would have to compromise at times and struggle with her own sense of morality.

There are also rumors of a spinoff in the near future, although Baranski could not confirm it at the moment.
