Google Nexus 10 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1: Which is the better Holiday Pick?
Google and Samsung continue to compete in the tablet arena. Both companies have released a refreshed line of slates but it seems they will not stop. The market is buzzing around the release of Google Nexus 10 2 whereas Samsung has been making the headlines for its slates such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. With Google's upcoming device bearing the same size, how will Samsung do? Is Google or Samsung better?
Google Nexus 10 2
The market continues to await the next release of the second generation Google Nexus 10. Previously, people thought it will launch at the same time with Google Nexus 5 but it did not materialize. According to reports, the Google Nexus 10 2 will still sport a 10.1-inch, Super PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen similar to the previous generation. It offers 16 million colors along with a pixel density of 299ppi. The Gorilla Glass coating will be upgraded to 3 instead of 2.
Google is also reported moving into Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset plus a quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor and and Adreno 330 GPU graphics. Reports say the new Nexus will offer a higher RAM at 3GB. Because Google already released the Android 4.4 KItKat update, it will be likely the device will run on it unless Google releases another OS update before the device.
Google has seen to it its devices remain priced affordably without compromising the features. As with its release of the second generation Nexus 5 and Nexus 7, people can expect the same level of quality and pricing on the second generation Nexus 10.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
Samsung created a successful lightweight and compact tablet through the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. The device offers 64GB storage expansion which can be a plus for many. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 have a simpler aesthetic approach compared to its predecessor. Even with the size of the screen, people will not have a hard time carrying the device around.
Samsung did not process extravagantly with the Galaxy Tab but it managed to create mid-range device for people looking for just the "right" tablet. The slate works with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz UI skin.
There is also a very useful feature called Smart Stay. This switches the tablet to sleep if the user is not looking at it. People can customize the notification panel according to their usage pattern. However, some sources note that Smart Stay is not as accurate as advertised. The device also offers TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors with 1280 x 800 pixels, 10.1 inches (~149 ppi pixel density).
Google's Nexus 10, even the existing model, has better resolution compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Nonetheless, for a midrange tablet it does have its good qualities. However, those seeking to maximize their money's worth with great features can stick to the Nexus 10. Only thing, people will have to wait for its official release.
