'Gotham' Season 2, Episode 2 Recap: It's a new day at Gotham City
This week, on Episode 2 of the FOX drama series “Gotham,” Theo Galavan (James Frain), his sister Tabitha (Jessica Lucas), and their group of escaped lunatics begin their reign of terror over Gotham City. Meanwhile, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), tries to do what he can to bring order back in the city.
Theo Galavan opens the episode with a little declaration to the Mayor. He has kidnapped the Mayor and tells him about his plans to cleanse the city in blood and fire using his monsters. He is referring to the group of lunatics that he and his sister, Tabitha, have taken fro the Arkham Asylum.
Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) and 4 other inmates have been unleashed by the galavans. They kidnap several workers from a local shipyard and start dropping them off the roof the Gotham Gazette. They have decided to call themselves Maniax, and Jerome has assumed leadership of the small gang.
Barbara Keane (Erin Richards) is among the group of escaped lunatics that Galavan has groomed into the Maniax. Joining her and Jerome are a few other psychotic criminals. After making headlines with their stunt from the roof, the group takes it to a higher level.
Apart from attempting to burn a bus full of cheerleaders, the group lets loose on the police. Barbara draws Jim Gordon out of the Gotham City Police Department, while Jerome and the others infiltrate the building. They go on a shooting spree while taking a video of their attack. Jerome leads the carnage and proceeds to wipe out nearly the entire force.
Gordon gets beaten up by one of Barbara’s goons. He stumbles back into the GCPD to find most of the officers dead. He finds Commissioner Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara) lying in a pool of her own blood and she dies in his arms.
When the carnage goes public, Jim’s former partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), shows up. He tells Jim that he’s coming back after his forced retirement. Jim is glad to have his old partner back, now that he sees he’s got a real problem in his hands.
Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is busy digging up all the information that he could find inside his father’s secret cave. Once Alfred (Sean Pertwee) sees the various guns and other weapons, he decides that snooping into this secret world is too dangerous for his young master.
When Bruce manages to open a computer, which possibly contains hidden files and his father’s secrets, Alfred decides to take action. he smashes up the computer to keep Bruce away from the dangerous information. As expected, Bruce is livid. He fires Alfred and sends him away.
Eventually, Bruce has a change of heart and runs after Alfred. He tells him that there is no way to stop his mission to learn the truth behind Wayne Enterprises, the corruption in Gotham City, and everything that may have put his father in his grave.
Alfred agrees to stand by Bruce and to mentor him in toughening up for the real world. Alfred also enlists the help of Lucius Fox, in order to fix the broken computer.
With Alfred firmly behind him, Bruce embarks on his mission to dig up the truth. Meanwhile, his friend, Jim Gordon, has his hands full with a new group of villains and hardly anybody left in the police force.
