Great Gatsby Exploration: Go on an Outer Space Trip with Leonardo DiCaprio for $1.5M
Leonardo DiCaprio is familiar with mingling with the stars but this time, he is in for a different kind. The Great Gatsby actor will board the Virgin Galactic for a trip across space. The recent Cannes Film Festival revealed that a bidder just paid 1.2 million euros (US$1.5 million) to be Di Caprio's travel partner.
The 20th amfAR gave way to some of the most unique and once in a lifetime opportunities. This sub-orbital trip with one of Hollywood's A-list is one of them. The gala auction featured 20 goodies for willing bidders. It is considered one of the most glamorous events in the festival.
The gala auction raised over $25 million. This will help AIDs research for the years to come.
Other bids included an extra role for 4 Hollywood movies with DiCaprio in it for 1.5 million euros, acoustic concert for 45 by Duran Duran for 400,000 euros, two VIP seats at the Oscar Awards for 140,000 euros and a game of six-a-side against Zinedine Zidane for 380 euros.
The gala featured 900 guests along with Hollywood's elite like Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson, Audrey Tautou, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, Paris Hilton, Kristin Scott Thomas and Leonardio DiCaprio. Hollywood tycoon Harvey Weinstein was also there. The charity function was held at Antibes' Eden Roc hotel.
Individual seats were at 3,000 euros while tables were around 120,000 euros. Each table sits 10. The earnings for this year's auction were double compared to the funds raised in 2012. In total, the gala gained 87 million euros.
