'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Meredith-Alex relationship and Andrew DeLuca's bittersweet storyline
With less than one week for the premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 13, the latest spoilers tease that the new episodes could be focusing on Alex (Justin Chambers) and Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) relationship once again. Meanwhile, Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotto) might go through some bittersweet experiences in the upcoming season.
As “Grey’s Anatomy” is proceeding towards season 13, it’s shifting its focus on the remaining original characters, Alex and Meredith. The friendship between the two will be growing by leaps and bounds with time. Their companionship has been quite infectious, especially after the tragic death of Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
Shonda Rhimes, the executive producer of the ABC medical drama series, told Entertainment Weekly that she was not surprised with the viewers’ desire of seeing both these characters together. She talked about the dinner party episode they did in which Meredith and Alex were shown sitting on the floor in Meredith’s bedroom and them having a great scene together.
“I watched that scene and I thought, ‘Oh people are going to start shipping Meredith and Alex, because there’s such a sense of comfort and nostalgia. They’re easy and wonderful together,” she said.
However, Shonda also realises that there are some viewers who do not wish to see them together as they feel that the duo are more like a brother and a sister. She said that she thinks the reason behind this is because the two have a history of 13 years together. They’re very much intertwined and that’s why they feel like family, Shonda explained.
When Shonda was asked whether there is a possibility of seeing the two characters being involved romantically, she said, “I’ve learned to never say never at this point.” This seems like a hint that we could see the two characters coming together in season 13 of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
On the other hand, the final episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 saw Andrew being badly beaten up by Alex. Alex’s reaction was due to a misunderstanding when Andrew brought a drunk Jo (Camilla Luddington) home.
The good news is that Andrew will live and viewers will be seeing a lot more of him in season 13. When a fan asked Entertainment Weekly if DeLuca will die in the show, the publication said no. DeLuca will apparently survive and even have a bigger storyline in season 13.
“We’re going to get to know DeLuca a lot better, who we don’t know at all, and who we’ve just started to scratch the surface of," Shonda told EW. "Now because this thing has happened to him, he has found himself in a spotlight that he was not interested in ever being in.”
Fans are very excited and cannot wait for season 13 of “Grey’s Anatomy” to begin already. It will be interesting to watch what turn Meredith and Alex’s relationship will take in the upcoming season.
