‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers: Meredith to choose between Alex or Riggs
After Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy’s (Patrick Dempsey) death in season 11, the fans didn’t know what else “Grey’s Anatomy” can do with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). But it seems that love won’t stop for Meredith as she faces possible love interests for the upcoming season 13.
Meredith has been through a lot of things. Her sister with photographic memory Lexie, who was played by “Supergirl” star Chyler Leigh, died with half of her body crushed by metal in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 8. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) managed to reveal that he was the dying John Doe only after he managed to scribble “007” on Meredith’s hand in season 6. Even Meredith’s mother, Ellis Grey, played by “Scandal” actress Kate Burton, died in season 3.
If that wasn’t enough, “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes separated Meredith from her person, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). Finally, to put the cherry on top, just when Meredith and Derek looked like they’re finally figuring it out, McDreamy died after going through surgery run by incompetent doctors.
Of all the things that Meredith has been through, no one would think that she would ever believe in love again. “Grey’s Anatomy” executive producer Betsy Beers says otherwise.
In “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12, Meredith became acquainted with the new guy Riggs (Martin Henderson). While some fans speculated on a possible relationship between the two, Beers interjects with a more plausible pairing: Meredith and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) or MerLex for short.
"I think there's something about them where fans sometimes feel like that might be inevitable, so they're getting ahead of it. So I don't think it surprises me because I think it's a logical place to go," Beers told E! News. "Look, they're best friends, so I think emotionally — and I've always been a giant Alex fan, like from the beginning.”
According to Unreality TV, not long before this, Beers also teased that Meredith and Riggs’ hook-up could escalate to a real relationship.
“I think she deserves some love,” Beers told Variety. “She spent a lot of time saying ‘I don’t need it, I’m fine, my life will go on,’ and there was something about that, that I felt so pleased and so satisfied. I feel like there’s something incredibly delicious about getting to watch this, so fingers crossed this is the tip of an iceberg.”
“Grey’s Anatomy” season 13 has been officially renewed with ABC but it still has not announced a release date.
