A gamer of Grand Theft Auto V was robbed and stabbed after buying his copy of the video game.

According to reports, the 23-year-old victim was hit with a brick, stabbed and robbed moments after he exited the Asda superstore in Colindale, North West London. The store held a midnight sale for the worldwide release of the much awaited violent game.

The victim was taken to the nearby North London Hospital and, as of this morning, his conditions are stable.

"We were called at 1.20 am to Princes Avenue, Colindale. A 23-year-old man was shopping, then on his way back home he was hit with a brick and stabbed. He was robbed of items he had bought from a nearby Asda supermarket, including a copy of Grand Theft Auto," the spokesman from Scotland Yard said.

Police believed that the attack was carried out by multiple suspects; however, details of the incident remained unclear as investigation is still ongoing. Investigators told witnesses to contact Crimestoppers with any information on the attack. Gamers and fans are waiting in queue for the worldwide release of this video game. The midnight release of Grand Theft Auto V was expected to break sales records after hitting the shelves today.

Online retailer Amazon has already sold out of the game ahead of its release, which reportedly cost around $270 million to make and market. Experts estimate that the game could generate $1.6 billion selling over 25 million copies on its first year in the market.

GTA 5 received rave reviews from critics and gamers and tagged it as "one of the very best video games ever made".

The multiplayer mode of GTA 5 is expected to arrive for a couple of weeks in October 1. This mode allows you to play with your friends such as plan robberies with your cronies as well as how to spend your ill-gotten wealth. The single player mode, on the other hand, allows you to make your own race routes for different kinds of cars.

GTA 5 is bound for release to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. However, it is still unconfirmed whether the game will come to PC and to PS4 and Xbox Infinity.
