Harrison Ford Plane Crash Update: Ford 'Reported Engine Failure' Before Crash, Made 'Safe' Emergency Landing, Is 'Battered' But 'OK'
Actor Harrison Ford has reportedly been injured in a small plane crash that he was piloting and had to crash land on a golf course near Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon. The “Indiana Jones” actor has been hospitalised and is in a “battered” but “ok” condition, according to tweets from his son Benjamin Ford. He is reportedly expected to “recover fully.”
Benjamin Ford tweeted that he is at the hospital with his dad who is “ok.” “He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man,” tweeted the chef. He also thanked the fans for their “thoughts and good vibes” for his father. Ford was reportedly flying a two-seater World War II vintage plane and according to various news websites, his injuries are “not life threatening.” The actor is expected to make a “full recovery.”
According to latest reports by Fox News, the 72-year-old actor “reported engine failure” shortly before the crash took place. He told the air-traffic controllers he was returning to the airport. A rep for Ford told TMZ that the actor's plane “stalled upon take-off” and he had “no other choice” but to make an emergency landing. The rep also added that the actor made a “safe” emergency landing and will recover from his injuries.
According to Deadline, Ford is an experienced pilot who has been “flying planes for nearly 50 years” and is very familiar with Santa Monica Airport. He was “outside” the plane when the help arrived, the website quoted Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Patrick Butler as saying. Ford has reportedly survived at least one previous accident and was the only person in the plane, a Ryan PT-22 Recruit, which was used for training during the World War II.
Ford's “Chewbacca” co-actor Peter Mayhew made fun of the news agencies that reported Ford's condition as “critical”.” The veteran actor said on Twitter that his friend's condition has been reported “critical, severe, moderate and fair,” in the span of an hour. “Is #HarrisonFord Han Solo or Wolverine?” he asked. He wished for his “speedy recovery.”
