HIV Cure: New Herbal Medicine 'Topvein' Claim 99% Cure Efficacy against HIV/AIDS; Legality Questioned
There is a new herbal remedy available in Zimbabwean market called Topvein, and it claims to cure with 99 per cent success rate against HIV/AIDS. In addition, the drug also claims to cause no ill side effects on the blood chemistry, lung and kidney functions, based on their official report.
Topvein Curing Claims against HIV
Dr. Mendez Fernandez produced the herbal medicine Topvein, which is claimed to provide 99 per cent accuracy on curing the deadly HIV that causes AIDS. Topvein has been found being sold in Lords-Hill Open Hospital in Harare's Southerton industrial area and it costs at $105 for a monthly supply.
One person, who identified himself as Lemiel, said that Topvien herbal medicine could cure AIDS within a year of use by boosting and improving the CD4 and CD8 immune cell counts on the patient.
He also said that Topvein is something which can be used for HIV/AIDS treatment alongside antiretroviral drugs, but patients may experience some drowsiness and yellowish stool and urine.
Topvein Illegal?
However, the deputy minister of Health and Child Care Paul Chimedza said that distribution of drugs not registered with the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe or MCAZ are illegal.
"If anyone is going to buy drugs, they should buy them from someone who is registered and those drugs must be guaranteed that they are safe for human consumption. Therefore, anyone who buys drugs from streets or the backyard is exposing themselves to harm and selling those drugs is illegal," the deputy minister said, quoted by ZimEye.
MCAZ directory-general Gugu Mahlangu said that the herbal medicine Topvein is not a registered drug in Zimbabwe.
Topvein Official Report
According to ZimEye, Topvein was adopted as an alternative HIV and AIDS treatment in Zambia in 2006 and the drug company was working with the University of Pretoria in South Africa to improve it.
According to the Topvein official Web site, here are the official clinical effects of using the drug:
- Increase in body weight
- Increase in appetite
- No opportunistic infections such as meningitis, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infection and diarrhoea.
- Increase in CD4 cell count by 99 per cent.
- Viral load reduction.
- There was no toxicity which can be attributed to Topvein.
- Liver function tests were normal.
- Kidney function tests were normal.
- Biochemistry of the blood such as haemoglobin was normal.
- There were no deaths recorded.
Dr. Mendez Fernandez, chairman of Topvein International Group sent a letter to ZimEye which detailed that the drug is not illegal in Zimbabwe, and that it is a clinically tested herbal medicine used to treat and cure HIV-1 subtype B and C, which are currently prevalent in the Southern African region.
