Original air date on Showtime: January 15, 2017
Recent updates on “Homeland” Season 6 revealed that the show will move away from international terrorist and cells completely and focus on “do-it-yourself” terrorists. Producer Alex Gansa shared details about the upcoming episodes.
Spoiler alert! This article contains "Homeland" spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.
“Homeland” Season 6 should not run the risk of featuring very similar parallels, considering its New York location, says Gansa. In “Homeland” Season 5, the show garnered a lot of attention after showcasing uncannily similar elements with the actual attacks on Paris, France.
He added that in the previous season of “Homeland,” world events tragically caught up to their storyline. By setting the location of Season 6 in New York, they did not want to dramatize any threats to the United States that do not actually exist, he tells Entertainment Weekly. It was their first karmic principle to avoid presenting that there is widespread terrorist influence by the ISIS or Al Qaeda in the country, because their intelligence officers reported that there are not any.
The “Homeland” producer continued that the current threat that the United States or New York is facing are self-radicalized individuals or DIY terrorists. The current risk is quite different from the September 11 terrorist attacks. The threat at the moment is more psychological and they wish to see how viewers will respond to their realistic plot.
In Season 6, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will be working with a group that gives legal assistance to Muslims who are unfairly harassed by law enforcement. Carrie will take on a challenging case after a young man is targeted by the FBI for pushing the limits of free speech on the internet. Gansa said that the story will determine how an online user is deemed a dangerous threat by pushing the boundaries of the First Amendment.
The premiere episode of “Homeland” Season 6 will feature Carrie and Franny living in Brooklyn. Dar (F. Murray Abraham) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will brief President-elect Keane, while Quinn (Rupert Friend) will struggle with his new condition. Quinn will survive, although he will no longer be the same person. He is expected to go through some major changes as the story progresses.
“Homeland” Season 6 will air on Jan 15. 2017 on Showtime. In Australia, the show airs on Channel TEN. The season premiere, titled “Fair Game,” can be viewed on Showtime Online as early as December 30, 2016. More updates and details are expected soon.
