‘Homeland’ season 6 finale: Peter Quinn is dead, actor Rupert Friend happy about it

Peter Quinn has met his tragic death in “Homeland” season 6 finale. Actor Rupert Friend, however, doesn’t mind it at all knowing that there will be no more black ops for his character.
In this season’s finale, Quinn was shot to death while trying to help Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and President-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) escape from a group of assassins. Quinn was able to brinh his passengers to safety but he dies from bullet wounds in the process.
The actor confirmed that his character’s death on Sunday’s episode is certain unless his perceived death in season 5. In a clip shared by “Homeland” official Twitter account on Monday, Friend thanked his fans for the support. “I just want to thank you for following Peter Quinn, me on the journey. It’s been an amazing ride and I really appreciate all the love and support that I had. So thank you,” he said in the clip.
Friend has revealed that showrunner Alex Gansa told him that Quinn is finally going to die a month before they shot the episode. The actor said Gansa just repeated to him what he had already told Friend when he was supposed to be killed off in season 5.
The “Hitman: Agent 47” actor admitted that Quinn’s death is a relief that the character is finally at peace. “The storyteller in me thought it was the right time for him to go bearing in mind he had been through so much, and for him to just continue to defy death and suffer felt cruel and unrealistic and sadistic, actually. So I was happy for him, the character,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile, Showtime and “Homeland” also dropped an action-packed yet heartbreaking tribute to Quinn. The video shows some of the best scenes of the CIA operative including the first time he met Carrie, their confrontations after he was almost killed in season 5, and the time he saved her life in “Homeland” season 6 finale.
Friend has also shared his thoughts on why the romantic relationship between Quinn and Carrie never really bloomed. He said it is because the two have different moral codes. The actor said Carrie doesn’t understand how to take accountability for her action which was the opposite of Quinn. He added that Quinn isn’t really interested in pursuing somebody who almost killed him and caused his suffering.
Meanwhile, Friend has been submitted in the lead actor category of Emmy for the first time this year. The star first earned a guest actor nomination for season 1.
The series has been renewed for a seventh and eighth season. The series creators planned to end the show in season 8. “Homeland” season 6 finale will air on Channel Ten in Australia on May 1.
