Australian television is still at least ten episodes away from the series finale of the Fox medical drama, "House M.D." but American viewers are bracing themselves for the series farewell Monday night. Lead actor Hugh Laurie (Dr. Gregory House) reflects on the show's central character.

In an interview with David Hochman, Laurie has this to say about the most adorable and grumpiest doctor in television history:

"I spend my entire life apologizing, and House never does... It's been incredibly liberating playing him," Laurie said.

"He can be horrible, he can be jagged and awkward, but the character has a confidence in his abilities and opinions, and sometimes that's all you need," Laurie concluded.

Laurie reportedly earned $700,000 per episode for working on House. As a gesture of gratitude, he chartered a private jet and flew the actors and crew to a secret location 26 minutes outside L.A. for the final shoot, TV Guide Magazine reported.

For his part, creator David Shore reckons House is a dream-come-true for him.

"I wanted an anti-Marcus Welby... a guy who calls idiots idiots to their faces, and with a bit of Sherlock Holmes thrown in."

Shore and the stars of House have all been tight-lipped on what awaits the fans in the series finale. What fans know for sure is that Jennifer Morrison will be coming back as Cameron, in a move that has been arranged with ABC Studios, as the actress now works in Once upon a Time.

One of the most anticipated appearance is that of Kal Penn, whose character left the show in a shocking suicide - House's biggest unsolved puzzle in the series.

Olivia Wilde will also come back as Thirteen, and some fans suspect that her character's Huntington's Disease might claim her life in the finale titled, "Everybody Dies."

"We want a concluding episode that feels like a summation in some sense, something that takes an overview... The ending is very personal to me, but it's tough to make a good series finale. They've failed more than they've succeeded. I hope people are satisfied, but the show has to end either way," Shore concluded.
