‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Star Conrad Ricamora On Oliver’s HIV Positive News
Best known as Oliver Hampton, Connor Walsh’s (Jack Falahee) love interest in ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder,” Conrad Ricamora is an openly gay actor who started his career in the Off-Broadway musicals, “Here Lies Love.”
Ricamora recently revealed to an exclusive interview how he managed to take in the news about Oliver finding out that he’s HIV positive. The actor admitted that he was informed about Oliver’s fate two days before shooting the emotional finale twist.
“I remember when they told me I was so upset as if I had just found out that one of my best friends tested positive,” the actor told Fashion & Style. “I guess I’ve become personally invested in Oliver and care so much about him! But yeah, they are very protective of the plot twists and turns in Shondaland so we never get scripts way in advance.”
The actor revealed that anyone who has gotten tested for any health-related reasons can relate to the scene. In order for him to nail the emotional scene, he imagined what it feels like to test positive for HIV and what happens to a person while waiting for the test results. The result is one of the show’s most dramatic and intense scenes.
When asked about working with Viola and the rest of cast, Ricamora revealed that everyone in the cast are inspired to raise their game to keep up with the award-winning actress. Originally auditioned for Wes Gibbins, played By Alfred Enoch, the actor thought that playing Wes is not quite fit for him and so he auditioned for Oliver and got the role.
So now that the big secret is out there, is there any chance for Oliver and Connor’s relationship? Will Oliver pull away from Connor or will Connor pull away from Oliver?
