How I Met Your Mother Season 7 was the highest-rated season, says co-creator Craig Thomas. But could an Emmy win follow the ratings success? Thomas answers.

"It's always tricky to speculate on Emmy chances," Thomas told TV Line via e-mail.

HIMYM earned an impressive 3.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, TV Line reported.

"We've only been nominated for Outstanding Comedy once, for Season 4," Thomas recalled.

Season 4 premiered with Stella (guest star Sarah Chalke of 'Scrubs') accepting Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor)'s proposal. It is the season when Ted got left at the altar, and Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) began to struggle with his feelings for Robin (Cobie Smulders).

"Season seven - this past season - was our highest-rated so far and while I have no idea if that helps our Emmy chances, I'm pretty excited about that fact just by itself!" Thomas mused.

On Season 7, Ted is seen running away with someone else's bride, and Robin is revealed as Barney's future wife.

How I Met Your Mother is coming full circle, although there are no news yet on whether Season 8 would be the show's last.

TV Line asked Thomas for his thoughts on the Season 7 finale.

"It featured just about everything HIMYM does well - the sweetness of Marshall and Lily having their baby; the bittersweetness of Barney and Robin finally putting their feelings for each other to bed; the deep-cut callback of Victoria (from season one) coming back into Ted's life (wearing a wedding dress, no less!); the flash-forward twist ending that Barney's future bride is, in fact, Robin; and of course a whole buttload of stupid flashback jokes," Thomas wrote.

Is Season 7 as good as Season 4? By all accounts - subplots, twists, jokes - it is. Season 4 in fact got a tad too heavy after Ted was left at the altar. Then again, it was in Season 7 when fans learned Robin is not going to have children. But taking all things in consideration, it will not be surprising if the decision makers at the Emmy Awards would notice HIMYM again. The TV viewers certainly did.

The deadline for Emmy voters to forward nomination ballots is on June 28.
