‘How I Met Your Mother’ creators order another CBS pilot after ‘Real Life’
“How I Met Your Mother” series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have recently ordered a second pilot order of the season. According to reports, CBS has handed out a pilot pickup for the Chris Distefano starrer comedy series “Distefano,” which is written by both Bays and Thomas.
For those unacquainted with “How I Met Your Mother” pilot series “Distefano,” here are some details. The show is a multi-camera, hybrid comedy, in “How I Met Your Mother” style and a hefty pilot-production commitment. It was first announced by the CBS network in August 2016.
”Distefano” is based on the comedy of Chris Distefano, an Italian American from Brooklyn, who also is a new dad following his marriage to a Puerto Rican woman. The show centres on Izzy and Chris (Distefano), two 20-somethings who are trying to raise their newborn daughter and merging their loud families – one Puerto Rican, one Italian, says a Deadline report.
“Distefano” has been reported as Bays and Thomas’ second pilot order this season, after “Real Life,” written by Hilary Winston. Also, it is Sony TV’s fifth comedy pilot this year.
Bays and Thomas will start working on the script soon. The duo has also been assigned to executive produce the show via their Sony Pictures Television-based Bays-Thomas banner. Actor Chris Distefano will be co-writing the story, and will also co-exec produce the pilot series alsongside Brian Bockrath and “How I Met Your Mother” grad Pam Fryman. Fryman will also be directing the pilot season, reported the Hollywood Reporter last year.
The project is Bays and Thomas’ first writing venture for the season. The Hollywood Reporter further states that the comedy has been redeveloped from last year's pilot “My Time/Your Time.” It is a co-production between Sony TV and the CBS network.
Chris currently stars in MTV and MTV2's TV shows “Guy Code” and “Girl Code.” He also co-hosts the MSG TV show “The Bracket” and can also be seen in “Failosophy” and “Money from Strangers.” Distefano was one of the finalists in “New York’s Funniest” at the 2012 New York Comedy Festival. It has also been reported that the comedian hosted the 2010 Fencing Masters on the SNY network and Elite 8 of the 2011-12 March Madness Comedy Competition. He is frequently seen on the “Opie with Jim Norton” show.
“Distefano” joins CBS’ five other pilot orders for the season, including “9J, 9K, and 9L,” “Brothered Up,” “Hannah Royce’s Questionable Choices” “Me, Myself and I” and “Real Life.”
