'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9: 'Dawson's Creek' Star James Van Der Beek to Make Guest Appearance as Robin's Ex

Another celebrity guest star has been confirmed to appear in "How I Met Your Mother" Season 9. "Dawsons Creek" star James Van Der Beek will return as Simon, Robin's ex, and the actor made the announcement through social networking site Twitter.

"Like many Americans, I'm working 2 jobs today. Luckily, neither one requires actual work ;) #FWBL #HIMYM," Mr Van Der Beek posted on his Twitter account @vanderjames with an Instagram photo link that shows the script of the hit CBS sitcom.

According to the Entertainment Weekly report, James Van Der Beek will appear in the HIMYM final season's Episode 12 titled "Bedtime Stories" that series creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays wrote. The actor previously appeared in Season 3's episode titled "Sandcastles in the Sand" as well as in Season 8's episode titled "P.S. I Love You."

Mr Van Der Beek's appearances in HIMYM usually bring the viewers back to Robin Scherbatsky's (Cobie Smulders) past as the Canadian teen pop star named Robin Sparkles. However, it is still unclear if the actor's appearance in the final season will be a flashback or as a guest in Robin and Barney's wedding or both.

The Cartermatt.com report reads: "With the abundance of flashbacks on this series, it's far from a long shot that James could just be one of the people appearing in Robin's past as we start to find out more and more about how she operates in relationships. Regardless, it's a nice little callback to a certain time in her life, and James is the sort of constantly-funny guy that you want to have aboard your show."

James Van Der Beek now officially joins the list of immense guest stars in the final season of "How I Met Your Mother" that includes John Lithgow as Barney's dad, Frances Conroy, Wayne Brady, Sherri Shepherd as Daphne, "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston and "Karate Kid" star William Zabka.

"How I Met Your Mother" Season 9 airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CBS network.
