'How I Met Your Mother's' Neil Patrick Harris Gets 'Out' and Personal
Valentine's Day is just around the corner and for Neil Patrick Harris, what better way to celebrate it than broadcasting his love for David Burtka all over the world?
Looking dapper in black and white photo, the 'How I Met Your Mother' star and his partner, David, get "Out" and personal on the cover of "Out" Magazine.
The longtime lovers share a sweet moment on the cover of the magazine and fans of these two will love to hear that they not only share a few photographs of themselves but a whole lot more. Neil Patrick Harris shares their love story and and splls out interesting info and tidbits about their relationship.
On how the pair crossed paths, Neil and David met during the "American Idol" viewing party and both hit off pretty well. Neil admits in the interview that he was constantly hounded by the thoughts of being together with David and hoping he too had the same feelings.
"I was always around when he was around, hoping the stars would align," shares Harris.
"When we all hung out for the first time -- I was invited by [our mutual friend] Kate to an "American Idol" viewing party -- I just stammered around him. I couldn't take my eyes off him."
Though, Burtka, was still in a relationship then, the feelings were mutual and he could not have suppressed his attraction for Neil.
"I thought he was adorable, though, with these amazing blue eyes that are just hypnotizing to me," says David.
"I ended up breaking with my boyfriend, and a week later, Neil and I had a date. We started hanging out every single night, and after three months, it was just non-stop. We talk on the phone at least eight times a day and text at least 25 times a day. He's my lifeline, in an amazing way. Without him, I can't breathe." adds David.
Looking back on how far they've come, these two have become an inspiration to a few gay couples in society. Even Hollywood has deemed them as the most respectable gay couple. So what was next for them? In 2010, the answer came in the form of an adoption of which the two welcomed twins.
It's a big move in a relationship to talk about kids and eventually deciding to have them, especially with gay or lesbian couples. However these two pushed forward with the decision with the thoughts of perfect happiness and contentment.
"Even on that first date, we talked about kids," shares Burtka.
"If he hadn't wanted kids, I don't think we'd be together. I always thought that family was the most important thing in life, and no matter what I do, whether being a chef or an actor or a dancer, being a dad is what I do best." quips the actor's long-time partner.
Despite what the world sees as a perfect relationship, David and Neil say otherwise but the two strive to always make it work between them.
"Nothing's perfect," shared Burtka. "A relationship is work and it changes. It's more good times than bad, but it's not always good. We have a great recipe for a wonderful relationship, but we don't want to be the poster boys for gay relationships. We're not trying to pretend that we are perfect. We're just trying-in a good, positive, loving way-to life our lives."
Now that they have established a solid relationship, adopted kids and broadcasted their love on "Out", what's next for Neil and David? Hopefully this year, with the gay marriage legalized in New York, a wedding will soon take place.
