How to Manually Upgrade Sony Xperia S to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware is now available for the Sony Xperia S via manual installation. The firmware comes with many new options, colourful and neat user interface which is very appealing to the eyes.
Sony Xperia S with Paranoid Android
Sony hasn't pushed an official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia S but the developers of Paranoid Android custom ROM made a version for owners using the smartphone. Paranoid Android custom-made ROM is based on the AOSP version of 4.2.2 Jelly Bean which retains the original features such as Google Now and Project Butter with additions for system performance and smooth UI.
Warning: Paranoid Android ROM is a custom firmware which may damage your device. We are not liable for any errors which may occur on you Xperia S. Read, understand and follow the instructions to avoid damaging the handset. Do this at your own risk.
Requirements
1. Create a backup of all your personal information, settings and data files stored on the Xperia S.
2. Make sure that the battery level at is least 50 per cent.
3. Root the Sony Xperia S and make sure you are not locked to any network carrier.
4. Install the necessary USB drivers and ADB tools for your smartphone on the computer.
5. Install a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod recovery on your smartphone.
6. Enable USB debugging mode. Go to "Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging mode" or "Settings > Developer options > USB debugging mode."
7. Download the Paranoid Android custom firmware and the Google Apps package on your computer.
Flashing Instructions
1. Connect the Sony Xperia S to your computer using a USB cable.
2. Copy both the Paranoid Android ROM and the Google Apps package you have downloaded earlier then paste them on the SD card of your smartphone.
3. Disconnect the Xperia S from the computer and turn it off.
4. Connect the phone again on the computer while it is turned off and while pressing Volume Up and the Power keys to boot into fastboot mode.
5. Open a command window on the fastboot folder then enter the following commands:
flash boot boot.img
6. Switch on the smartphone and boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up key.
7. Inside the recovery mode, create a Nandroid backup of the current ROM. Select "backup and restore > backup." The current ROM will be saved on the SD card which you can restore anytime.
8. Perform a full wipe on your handset. Select "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition." Then select "advanced > wipe Dalvik cache."
9. Now install the Paranoid Android custom ROM. Select "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > search for the firmware you have copied before > confirm installation." Apply the same with the Google Apps package.
10. Once the installation has been completed, go back to the main menu then select "reboot system now."
11. The smartphone will reboot and may take up to five minutes before reaching the home screen.
Congratulations! You have updated your Sony Xperia S to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean using Paranoid Android custom ROM.
