Huawei may launch its first ever curved screen smartphone this year
There are studies that show people prefer curved designs to straight lines, so it's no surprise that Huawei is reportedly releasing its first ever curved display smartphone in 2016.
Technology analyst Sun Changxu as well as a supply chain source hint that Huawei is planning to launch a curved display smartphone by the second half of 2016, reported Gizmo China. This speculated device might be the next generation of the Huawei Mate S launched in 2015.
The rumoured Huawei Mate S2 will sport a double-curved display technology which is not similar to the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S7 Edge, and will likely to fall into the high-end category, placing it in the elite league with Apple and Samsung.
Huawei had announced the Mate S at the IFA in September last year, and the Chinese tech giant is similarly expected to launch its successor around the same time in 2016.
Huawei is currently the world’s third largest smartphone seller after Samsung and Apple, selling 108 million smartphones in 2015. The tech company saw a 44 percent increase in sales last year compared to the previous year, and expects a 30 percent year-on-year growth in shipments in 2016.
Huawei has plans to reach the top in terms of smartphone market share, Richard Yu, chief executive at Huawei Consumer Business Group, told CNBC in an interview at MWC 2016.

Meanwhile, Huawei is expected to unveil its next flagship, the P9, at an event in London in early April. Huawei’s first ever smartphone with a fingerprint scanner is said to come in four variants -- P9 Max, P9 Lite , a regular P9 and a “feature-enhanced” model.
Other Huawei P9 specs include a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display, Kirin 950 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of native storage and a huge 3,600mAh battery.
Additionally, the metal-clad P9 is also slated to sport a metal body and a 2.5" curved display screen, as well as a dual-camera set-up.
The Huawei P9 release date is on April 6.
