Ex-couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's professionalism and interaction with each other will be put to the test in Season 5 of the Vampire Diaries after Executive Producer Julie Plec revealed that the two stars are set to film some steamy sex scenes. Will Ian and Nina, along with the other cast and crew members, experience an awkward atmosphere on the Atlanta set?

According to Ms Plec's revelation, the Vampire Diaries Season 5 premiere will pick up at the end of summer with the cast members entering college. The TVD executive producer shared: "It's a time jump. Summer has passed in which poor Stefan has been suffering at the bottom of the quarry and Damon and Elena have been having hot lovin' sex. We found a stylized way to show the audience how things went over the summer, what everybody was up to."

Even the title of the CW TV series' first episode has been revealed and it will remind the viewers of Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar's thriller film "I Know What You Did Last Summer." The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 1 will take place in Mystic Falls a couple of months after the events that happened in the finale of Season 4.

Characters Elena and Caroline, which actresses Nina Dobrev and Candice Accola portrays respectively, will move to college with Ian Somerhalder's character Damon Salvatore left behind in Mystic Falls and Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore struggling in order to survive from entrapment in a chest thrown in a lake.

Ms Plec talked about as well any upcoming deaths in Season 5: "I think we've got some juicy villains that need some vanquishing and there's always a possibility that one of our beloved heroes will kick the bucket. When, who, or how, I'll never tell, but it's definitely in the cards."

Julie Plec added that Damon and Elena's relationship will not always be sweet and romantic. The on-screen couple is anticipated to experience the normal relationship problems. "The biggest hurdles in their relationship come from external sources, people, ideas, notions that are trying to say they're not supposed to be together. It's really going to be more about them fighting to prove that they should be together and it's okay," Julie Plec shared.

Additionally, the TVD executive producer discussed the possibility of a crossover episode on the Vampire Diaries and its spin-off series "The Originals." Ms Plec declared: "I think that there are a lot of complicated elements that go into trying to make this happen, but I've talked about it with Candice and I've talked about it with Joseph. There's a million logistics to work out and you never know, but it's something we'd like to do and hope to do."

Previous reports on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 premiere indicate that it will air on October 10 but the CW Television Network decided to push up the date to a new and earlier one. The TV network has announced that Season 5 premiere is now scheduled on Thursday, October 3 at 8/7c.
