Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev: Vampire Diaries Stars Win MTVU's Ship of the Year Award as On-Screen Couple Damon and Elena
The Damon and Elena or "Delena" relationship in "The Vampire Diaries" is definitely getting stronger. At the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, MTVU conducted their first Fandom Awards and "The Vampire Diaries" stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev win the "Ship of the Year" award as the on-screen couple for the CW TV series.
According to the Wet Paint report, the Delena couple faced tough competition against other contenders such as "Everlark" (Katniss and Peeta) of "The Hunger Games," "Johnlock" (Sherlock and Watson) of "Sherlock," "Destiel" (Dean and Castiel) from "Supernatural" and "Sterek" (Stiles and Derek) of MTV series "Teen Wolf." The TVD co-stars and ex-couple accepted the award and expressed gratitude to the fans who continue to shower their characters with love and support.
"We want to thank you guys for all of your love and support of Delena," Nina Dobrev told the Delena fans through a taped acceptance speech at "The Vampire Diaries" set in Atlanta. "Our ship has been through some ups and downs and we are not sure where we would be without your support ... so thank you and we will try to keep it interesting for you," co-star Ian Somerhalder further added.
Ian Somerhalder may his eyes as Damon Salvatore fixed on Nina Dobrev as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" but off the camera, the 35-year-old heartthrob actor is currently smitten with "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed. The Mail Online report claims the new couple appears to be inseparable since they have been spotted together several times in Los Angeles.
On Friday, July 25, Ian and Nikki were once again spotted and photographed heading to the 26-year-old actress' home after working out at the gym. Nikki Reed wore purple leggings, black shirt and sunglasses with her hair tied up in a bun while Ian Somerhalder wore grey sweatpants, black shirt and a blue cap.
The Mail Online report further revealed that the couple showered at Nikki's home and stepped out with matching fedora hats. Click HERE to see photos.
Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" fans will have to patiently wait for the Season 6 premiere to catch actor Ian Somerhalder as the bad boy vampire Damon Salvatore. The CW TV series is scheduled to return with the brand new season on Thursday, Oct 2, at 8 pm ET on the CW Network.
