Ian Somerhalder on Twitter: 'Vampire Diaries' Actor's Heart Weeps For Philippines Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Victims
"Vampire Diaries" actor Ian Somerhalder has expressed on social networking site Twitter about the sadness that he feels for the victims in the Philippines and the devastation that super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) caused.
The message that Mr Somerhalder shared on his Twitter account @iansomerhalder to his millions of followers reads: "My heart is weeping right now. To all of you in the Philippines, we're coming to help. The destruction you are enduring has the world with you!"
The 34-year-old is known for his dedication to charity work and other causes with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF). According to the WetPaint report, the actor may have assured that they will arrive for help but for him to personally show up should not be expected.
"Given that he's busy with the show, but we bet he's working overtime behind the scenes in Atlanta to send donations and assist in any way possible," the report reads. Aside from Ian Somerhalder, there are other famous celebrities who have reacted via Twitter and Facebook to show support or send help.
"Dawson's Creek" actress Katie Holmes posted on Tuesday, November 12, on her Twitter account @KatieHolmes212 the message: "My heart goes out to everyone in the Philippines" while Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron wrote using her @CharlizeAfrica Twitter account: "Join me and support relief & recovery in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan where 9.5 million R affected http://bit.ly/1iZMLG9 #reachout."
"Navy please keep the people of The Philippines in your prayers!!! I was just there and this truly breaks my heart!!!" singer Rihanna expressed on her @rihanna Twitter account. At Facebook, celebrities like Channing Tatum, Maroon 5 and Avril Lavigne have posted messages as well asking for donations.
For instance, the Channing Tatum Facebook page status reads: "Typhoon #Haiyan has devastated the Philippines and millions need food and shelter. You can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10, or you can also donate on the American Red Cross's site: http://rdcrss.org/1bnk2ah."
"With a predicted 2,000 to 2,500 having lost their lives, 800,000 displaced, and 2 million people needing food aid, Typhoon Haiyan has absolutely devastated the Philippines," the Perez Hilton report reads. Other countries are currently joining forces in offering their help to the victims of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines.
