Actor Ian Somerhalder recently expressed enthusiasm on Twitter about his experience of going to Harvard University. Is the “Vampire Diaries” actor ditching acting for school? Fans need not worry because Mr Somerhalder revealed on the social networking site that he only had the opportunity to go to Harvard for the “Girls Impact The World Film Festival.”

The 35-year-old heartthrob shared on his Twitter account @iansomerhalder an Instagram image of himself sporting the look of his "TVD" character Damon Salvatore while sitting in the corner of a room and seriously reading a material. Mr Somerhalder captioned the photo with the message explaining that the film festival is the only reason for him to enter the university. Click HERE to see photo.

According to the Entertainmentwise.com report, Ian's shared image has ignited rumours about the actor leaving "The Vampire Diaries" to go back to school. It turns out Ian Somerhalder visited Harvard to honour the amazing young women film makers at the said event. Ian's previous tweets also expressed his excitement to attend the event in order to create awareness, have interaction with the "bad-ass" girls in the World Film Festival and hand out awards. Another shared photo from the "TVD" star showed his presence at the festival with the logo projected on a screen.

The GITW festival featured the top three films selected from the submitted entries of high school and undergraduate students worldwide. The festival serves as a scholarship programme as well where the students submit their 3- to 5-minute short films that deal with the different issues of women such as maternal health, microfinance initiatives, child marriage, sex trafficking, domestic violence and poverty alleviation.

The WetPaint report claims there were three lucky winners at the film festival that had their short films screened at the event. The winners received monetary prizes as well as film distribution channels and an internship opportunity at a media agency in Los Angeles.

Catch Ian Somerhalder return as bad boy vampire Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" season 5, episode 14 titled "No Exit." The brand new episode is scheduled to air on Thursday night, Feb 27, at 8 pm ET on the CW Network.
