Actor Ian Somerhalder says hello to the new love of his life on social networking site Twitter. The "Vampire Diaries" heartthrob, who split from co-star Nina Dobrev, excitedly revealed his "new girl" to millions of followers with an attached Instagram picture.

It turns out the "new girl" in Ian's life is an adorable dog rescued from wandering the vicinity of the "Vampire Diaries" set. "My new girl. Rescued from traffic near the Vampire Diaries stages just a few hours ago-so smart, so beautiful & charming-all a man could ask for in a girl.-So happy together. Her name is Nietzsche," the heartthrob actor recently posted on his Twitter account @iansomerhalder.

The attached image showed Mr Somerhalder cuddling the rescued dog. Ian, 34, has always been an animal lover, so it is not really surprising to hear that he adopted Nietzsche in addition to his furry family.

Ian's new girl, Nietzsche, now joins his other three pets. The first one is a feral cat from Hawaii, the second cat is a rescued one from New York City and the third one comes from Canada.

The actor may have been portraying an evil vampire character on-screen, but in real life, he helps other animals against cruelty through his Ian Somerhalder Foundation with the objective of empowering, educating and collaborating with people and projects to "positively impact the planet and its creatures."

Additionally, Ian has divulged in April about his plans of opening a rescue center for abused animals. "We're building an animal sanctuary that's also going to double as a sustainable agriculture farm and triple as a youth education camp," the actor previously stated.

"When a young person comes to that farm, they leave with a different understanding of compassion. If you have compassion for an animal, ultimately you will have compassion for people," Ian further added.
