Just in time for the holidays, Telstra launched a 10-inch 4G tablet specially designed for Australians.

Australian network giant Telstra released an incredibly cheap tablet that is expected to take a bite on Apple's sales. Telstra homegrown tablet is slightly bigger than Apple's flagship tablet and is definitely much cheaper.

The device boasts a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 2MP front- and 5MP rear cameras, and a 6900mAh battery. Moreover, it is supported by Telstra's 4G network.

"Given Australians' appetite for technology we know that mobile tablets will be on many shopping lists this holiday season. We think the Telstra 4G Tablet will be a popular option, taking the latest touch-screen technology and making it accessible to everyday Australian families," said the director of Telstra Mobile Anthea Roberts.

On the other hand, tech giant Apple unveiled not one, but two tablets last week at its media event at San Jose's California Theater. The company unveiled the iPad Mini and a revamped full size iPad.

Apple unveiled the long-rumored iPad mini, a smaller, lighter model with a 7.9-inch screen, instead of the 9.7-inch Retina display on the regular iPad. The screen resolution is 1024 by 768 pixels, the same as the iPad 2 and a quarter of the resolution of the flagship iPad.

The company also boosted the existing iPad 3 or New iPad by adding a new A6X processor, faster Wi-Fi performance, and the 8-pin Lightning connector, while keeping the price the same as before-starting at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. Both also have 4G LTE versions available for $130 more, and you can get them all in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB varieties. Below is a closer look at the differences between each of these tablets.

Screen Display - The latest iPad will sport the same, old 9.7 inch screen display with 2048x1536 pixel resolution. The Telstra 4G Tablet is slightly bigger with 10.1 inches with 1280×800 pixel resolution.

Processor - 4th Gen iPad is powered by A6X chip processor. Telstra's own device is powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.

Operating System - iPad 4th Gen is run by Apple's latest iOS 6 while Telstra's 4G Tablet is equipped with Android's Ice Cream Sandwich.

Storage - iPad 4th Gen comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants. Telstra's 4G Tablet, on the other hand, is available in 16GB only.

Price - The full size iPad WiFi only and WiFi + 4G/LTE cost $499 and $629, respectively. Telstra's 4G Tablet is definitely cheaper as it is available in $480 outright price or you can avail through the flexible 24-month plans of Telstra.

The 4th Generation of iPad is already available for pre-order, with the Wi-Fi-only versions hitting Apple Stores on November 2. Telstra's 4G Tablet is available in the network.
