iPad 5, iPad Mini 2 Release Date Not in Sept. 10; Launch Rumours Back to October
iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date may not happen anytime soon as Apple is already prepping up for the iPhone press event on September 10.
It was rumoured before that the next iPads will be unveiled on aforementioned date alongside the next generations of iPhone. However, this is denied by the invitations sent out by Apple giving no hint that an iPad will be release. Thus, the launch rumours jumped back to October.
Last month, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated in his note that the tech giant may not release any new iPad Mini models this year. However, consumers may see a release of a cheaper iPad Mini alongside the iPad Mini 2 in March or April of 2014.
According to Kuo, current production status indicates that Apple would not be able to release any iPad Mini tablets until December of 2013 at the earliest.
The iPad Mini 2 is also speculated to feature a screen with a pixel resolution of 2048x1536. This is almost four times the resolution of the present iPad Mini and is equal to the fourth generation iPad that was released along with the iPad Mini last year. AU Optronics has been rumored to be making displays for the iPad Mini 2.
Other specs include a more powerful dual core A7 processor and a 7.9 inch screen. It will also feature a 10-hour battery life, a FaceTime HD camera, and an iSight camera with 1080 pixels HD video recording. Apple is also trying to reduce the thickness of the iPad Mini 2 by using Sharp's IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) technology on its screens.
The iPad 5, on the other hand, is rumored to have no bezels and sleeker design. iLounge's Jemery Horowitz believes this design indicates that Apple will need Sharp's IGZO screen technology. Sharp, however, has been struggling in production and its ability to deliver components on time will play a key role in the release of the next iPad.
However, the Cupertino-based company offers no official comment on the aforementioned rumors.
