Two 10-inch tablets are bound for release later this year - the iPad 5 and the Nexus 10 2.

The Google Nexus 10 2 may follow the footsteps of the recently released Nexus 7 2. According to Android representative Sundar Pichai, the Google Nexus 10 2 release date will be in the "near future."

The Nexus 10 2 is rumoured to come with improved design and new features. It may also boast an 8.9-mm frame to reduce the size and weight of the tablet. The device will also include new features such as an expandable storage via a microSD slot as well as LTE Connectivity support.

In addition, the device will debut with the rumoured upcoming Android OS - 5.0 Key Lime Pie. This android operating system includes Linux 3.8 kernel that allows optimization on support on devices with 512 RAM. Moreover, an improved multiple device support is expected, along with an enhanced integration of social networking, and cross-device SMS syncing on Google cloud services.

Consumers may expect the Google Nexus 10 2 release date to happen around October and the device will hit the shelves by November, just in time for the gift-giving season.

The iPad 5, on the other hand, may retain some of the specs of the iPhone 5 but will also include an A7 processor, support for 4G/LTE connection and internal storage up to 128 GB, according to analyst Ming Chi Kuo. Rumour has it that the device will retain its 5-MP rear camera although many Apple fans wished that Apple will upgrade it to 8 MP.

"Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software and services that we can't wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014," Apple CEO Tim Cook said during an earnings call last April.

According to the latest note of KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a great reputation when it comes to Apple-related rumours, the iPad 5 will debut in early September along with the iPhone 5 casing and not with iPad Mini.
