iPhone 6 to Arrive in 2014 with Faster and More Power Enabling A8 Processor
The next generation iPhone, now called the iPhone 6 is expected to hit the shelves in 2014 with a more powerful A8 processor that will enable some brand new iPhone 6 features.
Apple is currently using the A7 processor in its iPhone 5s, iPad mini Retina display and iPad air. It is the first time that the Cupertino tech giant created and implemented a chip that worked across its mobile product line-up.
Essentially, the 64-bit processor allows the iPhone 5s camera burst mode and a number of other features by delivering the power required for these intensive tasks like image processing.
Apple is currently lining up suppliers for its iPhone 6 and iPad 2014 mobile processors, according to DigiTimes. The rumour suggests that the A8 processor will utilise similar package-on-package tech that Apple utilised on the A6 and A7 processors to place the processors and RAM in one package.
Although this technique is not new for the iPhone 6, it is pretty significant as this will allow Apple to alleviate the motherboard space utilised, which will give room for bigger battery. As rumours claim that the iPhone 6 will come in larger displays and higher resolutions, it will likely need more power. The thin design of the iPhone 6 needs to make room for a large battery to sustain this power-hungry device.
The rumour says that Apple is set to collaborate with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company to produce the A8 processor along with the Amkor Technology and STATS ChipPAC that earned 40 per cent of the orders.
TSMC has been rumoured to take over some of the Apple A series chip production because Apple allegedly keeps its distance from Samsung due to legal battles. Although these rumours have been around since last year, Samsung manufactured the A7 chip just the same. "TSMC reportedly will start ramping up production using 20nm process technology for Apple's A8 chip in the second quarter of 2014," DigiTimes reported.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 specs and features are still tough to nail down thus far. It has been reported that the Touch ID will still be on board with the new A8 64-bit processor and some camera improvements.
