iPhone 6, iPhone 5S Release Date Set in July; Pre-orders to Start in June?
A new rumour emerged claiming that consumers can get their hands on Apple's next set of smartphones in July with pre-orders starting in June.
These past few weeks, many sources claimed that either one or both of Apple's rumoured smartphones will be launched at the Worldwide Developers Conference event.
The aforementioned statement was supported by Japanese telecommunications company KDDI leaked possible pre-order and release dates for the iPhone 5S. According to the leaked documents for KDDI's au wireless service, pre-orders for the iPhone 5S will begin on June 20, with the smartphone arriving sometime in July.
The leaked info also indicated the iPhone 5S will feature a 13MP camera, a fingerprint reader, and iOS 7, which are all certainly specifics we've heard touted at least once before.
On the other hand, French website Nowhereelse.fr uncovered the paperwork, with Apple Insider pointing out docs like this are used by the staff at official carrier stores as cheat sheets of a sort. The June 20 pre-order rumour fits in with the timeline of an announcement of the 5S at WWDC during the week of June 10-14.
Releasing the iPhone 5S relatively soon after the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 rather than later in the year would help Apple keep pace with its rivals, but rumours about iPhone release dates are about as common as the phone itself.
However, this contradicts the subtle statement of Apple's CEO Tim Cook at the recent earnings call with the investors and press. Tim Cook dropped several hints that the upcoming iPhone 6 and 5S will be released later this year.
In the most recent earnings call with investors, press and analysts, Cook said that no new products are to launch before the end of the year.
Cook also subtly dented rumours that the iPhone 5S could launch as early as June. "Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can't wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014."
Rumour has it that the next iPhone will feature Retina or IGZO screen display, A7 quad core chip processor, iOS 7, 128GB internal storage, 13 mega-pixel camera, and longer battery life. The lack of NFC support on the iPhone 5 was one of the biggest criticisms aimed at Apple's smartphone.
Meanwhile, the cheaper iPhone 5S is rumoured to sport a plastic casing, 4-inch screen display, dual core processor and 8-megapixel camera.
However, Apple has not yet commented on the rumours.
