iPhone 6 Release Update: To Feature Quantum Dot Technology Better Than Kindle Fire, Sapphire Glass to be the 'Killer App'
The release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 puts pressure on Apple’s iPhone 6. The long-standing rivalry means that whenever one company releases a product, the market will turn to the other to see if it can match the competition. Samsung went ahead with the Galaxy S5 just recently. Nonetheless, it appears Apple will be taking the competition further. According to recent reports, the tech giant plans to include Quantum Dot (QD) technology for its screen while the sapphire glass will be a killer app.
According to Forbes, Apple may be focusing on the possible expansion of the phone screen including the use of the sapphire glass. Haydn Shaughnessy noted in this report in Forbes that the key to the product will be the display technology.
The iPhone 6 will feature a display mechanism far better than LCD smartphones. According to a recent patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple has been working on a similar QD technology found on the Kindle Fire HDX 7. What separates apple from the technology is that it will offer a wide colour gamut compared to the Kindle Fire.
Amazon sacrificed the colour gamut for better colour accuracy and reproduction.
Analysts also believe that there are several reasons supporting the idea of QD technology on Apple products. Likewise, analysts also think that the iPhone 6 be a coup for Nanosys. This is a company with more than 300 patents in QD under its name. Samsung is among the company's major investors.
The use of QD technology on Apple products started leaking in December 2013. However, there are those who think that it will be a longer project compared to the release of the iPhone 6. People may not see the QD technology until another smartphone launches under Apple.
Nanosys did not confirm Apple's use of the QD. The company said that it has tight NDAs for its customer, and it cannot issue a comment. The Forbes report also noted that the technology may launch around middle of the year. People will have to wait for Apple's official announcements on the matter.
