As part of the iPhone 6S release date plans this 2015, Apple is rumoured to highlight anew the 4-inch screen profile, call the device iPhone 6C and offer it as the third option this year. Having a small-screen iPhone in this age of supersized smartphones actually makes sense, according to a new report.

The iPhone 6C is business as usual for Apple, reported The Motley Fool. If indeed the 6C will join the 2015 iPhone line up, as the iPhone 5S and 5C – both 4-inch devices – run their full course later in the year, the tech giant has all the reasons in the world to justify the move. Four of them are offered below:

Budget iPhone

While the iPhone 5C was not as phenomenal as projected, the device was far from failure. With the 5C, Apple had achieved what it gunned for – giving budget-sensitive consumers the chance to experience the unique environment without paying the usual steep price.

The 5C performed its job and the 6C will merely sustain what was started. At a more affordable price point, the new budget iPhone will open up the door for the hold-out smartphone users to finally enter the iOS universe and still realise saving. And if reports prove true that save for the screen size and housing material the iPhone 6C is nearly identical to the regular iPhone 6S, then Apple has another hit in the making.

Gunning for ecosystem growth

Having a budget phone that practically is equipped with the capabilities of its flagship twin means sustainable growth for Apple. The iPhone 6C is far from being a junk smartphone amidst the likelihood that its sticker price is at least $100 lower from that of the regular model.

Consumers opting for the cheaper iPhone model somehow ensure that Apple will see additional users to its ecosystem, pointing to continuous growth. This is especially true for gadget shoppers unwilling to pay the top-dollar that the regular flagship iPhone demands.

Expand market reach

Steady stream of buyers and growth also means that Apple aims to expand its market coverage. Of special focus is China where the tech giant can potentially tap some hundreds of millions of fresh customers. While many in the country may be awash with cash, the great majority of the population remains cost-sensitive and the iPhone 6C, with the tag price not that intimidating, could be the key to lure them in.

More options for Apple fans

Lastly, the iPhone 6C could serve as the sweetening deal for Apple fans to stay in the system. In the United States, for instance, there is an emerging trend that could lead to telcos eventually eliminating device subsidies. Potentially, this could discourage existing iPhone owners to jump to the next build as they will have to pay for the device’s actual cost.

The iPhone 6C, The Motley Fool said, is the answer to this problem. Its relatively lower price might just convince Apple fans to keep attending the iPhone party each year despite the gatekeeper asking for more cash for the regular slot. The 6C will provide the cheaper slots but with the same iPhone imprint.

The iPhone 6S release date is likely to happen as early as September 2015. If the rumours will prove correct then the iPhone 6C will join the fresh bunch of iOS 9-powered smartphones, which should also include the phablet-size iPhone 6S Plus.
