iPhone 7: Apple to ship nearly 80 million iPhone 7, 7 Plus smartphones despite drop in sales
Recent reports have suggested that iPhone sales have declined. However, a new report from Taiwan states that Apple is expecting positive reception from Apple iPhone 7 as the company has ordered production of nearly 80 million iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units this year.
According to Barron’s Asia that cites information from a Taiwanese publication, Economic Daily, the Cupertino company has orders its suppliers to build 72 to 78 million iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones by the end of 2016. Wall Street had expected that Apple would order only 65 million iPhone 7 units. However, the new report suggests that Apple will be aiming at highest production target to achieve more iPhone sales this year.
Foxconn (also known Hon Hai Precision Industry) will be the major manufacturer for the upcoming iPhones. Pegatron will be also assisting Apple in building the next generation iPhones. Apart from assembling the iPhone 7 units, the aforementioned suppliers are also expected to produce dual-camera systems.
It is not clear as to why Apple has decided to increase the production this year as the upcoming iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are rumored to resemble iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus smartphones in design. Rumors suggest that Apple will bring major improvements to the iPhones that will be released next year. Early speculations that the 2017 iPhones will launch as iPhone 8.
Since Apple usually launches flagship smartphones once a year, the upcoming iPhones are expected to release in September this year. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones are expected to be powered by the new Apple 10 chipset.
Rumors have it that the iPhone will feature a OIS enabled camera whereas the iPhone 7 Plus will come with improvements such as dual camera system, 3 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Recently leaked photos of iPhone 7 case suggest that it will feature four external speakers and improved camera design.
