Jaden Smith Clarifies Emancipation Reports with Dad Will Smith on TV Show ‘Ellen’ [PHOTOS AND VIDEO]
Jaden Smith, son of Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, has been surrounded with reports about receiving emancipation as a gift for his 15th birthday on July 8. The young actor immediately clarified the issue with his dad Will Smith during a guest appearance at the TV show "Ellen."
The father and son pair decided to clarify the family drama during their busy press tour schedule that promotes their latest film titled "After Earth." TV host and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres asked Jaden Smith if he wants emancipation from his cool parents, the teenage boy simply answered: "I'm not going anywhere."
Jaden Smith even candidly shared about his personal life inside his dad's home.
"The thing that people don't get is that everything at his house is free. So I can get anything and everything that I want at his house so I think I'll be there for 20, 30 more years," Jaden stated.
According to Will Smith, the emancipation reports may have sprung out and exaggerated from a simple joke during an interview in Tokyo, Japan.
"I think I made a joke in Tokyo. My baby boy, he's never leaving me ever. No emancipation for the Smith kids," the 44-year-old father declared.
Jaden and Will reportedly joked around about the teenager's freedom from his parents when he makes a film more successful than his father. "He says, 'Dad, I want to be emancipated.' I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor because he really wants to have his own place. That's the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand," Will Smith stated.
Proof that Jaden Smith does not have any plans of leaving his family was seen during the Miami Heat/Chicago Bulls Game 5 in Miami where he bonded with his father. Jaden and Will were spotted behaving more like best friends rather than the typical father-and-son bond.
Will Smith stars with son Jaden in the M.Night Shyamalan film "After Earth" that will hit cinemas on May 31 across America and June 13 in Australia. Take a look at the video below that shows Jaden Smith's interview at "Ellen" as he clarified the issue on emancipation.
