James Cameron's "Titanic" Coming Back to Cinema Screens in 3D
Epic Tale Returns in 3D
Get ready to dig out those old Celine Dion CDs, swoon over young Leonardo DiCaprio and scowl at the dastardly Billy Zane as James Cameron's "Titanic" is set to return to cinema screens next year.
At a whopping cost of $18 million, the 1997 Oscar-winner is being converted into 3D for the big screen. The conversion of the film is already underway as Cameron unveiled 18 minutes of converted footage of the film at the lot of Paramount studio. In its entirety, the conversion is expected to take around 60 weeks. The unveiling displayed eight scenes from the film, including Jack (DiCaprio) and Rose (Winslet) meeting on the grand staircase and the sinking of the ship.
Back in 1997 "Titanic" captivated audiences worldwide, winning 11 Oscars along the way. The film is the second-highest grossing film of all-time, only missing out on first place to Cameron's first venture in to 3D, "Avatar".
"There are certain films that warrant being brought back to the theater. There is a whole generation of people who haven't seen it at all," said Cameron, justifying its conversion to 3D. Cameron insisted that were the technology around at the time, he would have made "Titanic" in 3D.
With the recent success of "The Lion King 3D", one expects that "Titanic" will prove equally as successful, particularly as it has the man who heralded in this new 3D era at the helm.
