'Jane The Virgin' Cast And Crew Speak Out About Emmy Award Speculations

The Emmy buzz around The CW’s hit comedy series “Jane The Virgin” is deafening. After its first successful season, the accolades have been pouring in and the stars weigh in on making history at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards. Golden Globe Best Actress Gina Rodriguez speaks out about the show’s success.

“I can’t believe right now that we’re talking Emmys,” exclaimed Rodriguez while speaking to Dave Nemetz of Yahoo TV. The actress came out from relative obscurity into a household name thanks to an award-winning performance in just the span of one season. She calls the experience “terrifyingly exciting” and a blessing.

The success of the show’s first season has changed her life and Rodriguez feels that wanting more could be somewhat selfish. However, she doesn’t deny that winning an Emmy Award “would be awesome!”

Gold Derby gave a summary of the accolades that the show has received so far. These include Golden Globe, People's Choice, AFI, and Peabody Awards. The show has also enjoyed nominations by the Critics' Choice and the Television Critics Association.

Jaime Camil, who plays Jane’s father Rogelio de la Vega, was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award. He spoke to Gold Derby about the show’s Emmy chances and his experience on the show. He says that working with award-winning actress Rita Moreno has been a surreal experience. He calls her “Hollywood Royalty” on account of having an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony under her belt.

Meanwhile show creator Jennie Urman has a simple take on a possible Emmy nomination. “It would blow my parents’ minds!” she says. She thinks that an Emmy nod will give the show some validation and more people would be interested in watching it.

The CW is actively campaigning for an Emmy nomination for the show. The network and CBS TV studios have recently used excerpts from Rodriguez’ Golden Globes acceptance speech to lobby for the Emmys.

The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 20. The event will be hosted by Andy Samberg of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
