Jennifer Morrison: 'Once Upon A Time' Actress Talk About The Storybrooke Curses In The Fairy Tale Drama Series
Another spell that got cast upon Storybrooke in "Once Upon A Time" Season 4 has caused some viewers or critics slam the fairy tale drama series for having fondness with curse storylines. Actress Jennifer Morrison, who portrays character Emma Swan in the ABC TV series, talked about the curses and defended that they mean something not only to the residents of Storybrooke in an interview.
The 35-year-old actress revealed in an Entertainment Weekly interview that the curses, like the Snow Queen's (Elizabeth Mitchell) Shattered Sight curse that recently hit Storybrooke, have a symbolic meaning. "Fairy tales are not literal. They are very metaphorical, and they are very representative of other things," Morrison shared while on the OUAT set.
Jennifer Morrison explained that she sees the curses on the show, such as the Shattered Sight curse, the original Dark Curse, the Memory Curse and the Sleeping Curse, as the crises that people deal with every day. "The snow monsters and witches and all those things-as representative of the things that come our way that are hard in life: illness, death, exams, fights with loved ones, breakups," the OUAT star stated.
The actress further pointed out that people should bond together in fighting off these crises in life. According to Morrison, it is comparable to a family who sticks together while dealing with a death in the family, fighting off cancer, a parent losing a job or children not getting into the school that they want to.
Furthermore, the actress is aware that the excess of curses make the OUAT characters look crazy because they still reside in Storybrooke. However, Jennifer Morrison defended that trials do come in real life and people find a way to survive from it instead of leaving their home.
Lastly, the OUAT star claimed that the underlying message of the fairy tale drama series is to fight through the trials of life with family and friends whether the situation is a good battle or a bad battle. "That's what we all have to hang onto. That's the only way I can see it," Morrison admitted.
"Once Upon a Time" Season 4 airs on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
