Jessica Mauboy blames stylist Mike Ayoubi for Melbourne Cup fiasco, fires him [Watch Video]
Jessica Mauboy might be very excited to be on the cover of the monthly women’s fashion magazine InStyle, but she has reportedly fired her long time stylist friend Mike Ayoubi. Mauboy was unable to perform the national anthem at the Melbourne Cup held on Nov. 3, 2015 apparently because of a fashion meltdown that led the singer to an alleged “panic attack”.
“I should have been prepared to just walk on stage and do my job, the job I love and they didn’t allow me to do that,” the singer complained to The Daily Telegraph earlier this month.
Ayoubi who is credited for overhauling the singer’s fashion sense refused to comment on the situation but didn’t deny that the duo has parted ways.
Only two days back Ayoubi posted an image of Mauboy on InStyle magazine cover.
Very proud of my friend for one of the best covers I've seen this year. #maubabe Well done to a… https://t.co/vheGAI1aTb
Mike has always said that Mauboy was his number one client.
On the day of her scheduled performance at Melbourne Cup 2015, Ayoubi dressed Jessica in an endorsed Myer dress and headpiece along with a David Jones-stocked Dolce and Gabbana boots. However, Victoria Racing Club officials didn’t approve of the boots and declared them to be inaccurate.
“Four minutes before I am about to be walked out from the green room, people on one side are bickering with people on another side and it started to suffocate me, it was crazy and I didn’t know what to do. It was the scariest moment ever,” Jessica explained in an earlier interview right after the fiasco.
The “This Ain’t Love” singer confirmed that an argument broke out behind the scenes after the event because of the wardrobe misfortune. Mauboy’s backup singer Nadia Aya had to perform on the singer’s behalf that left the audience confused.
Yahoo! News reports that Ayoubi was working with David Jones new campaign August onwards. A David Jones spokesperson said that hundreds of stylists work with the retail giant on a contract basis and that Ayoubi was engaged by the ad agency.
Mauboy will be featuring next month on InStyle Magazine cover.
