The Melbourne Cup 2015 has celebrity attendees joining the festivities, but pop star Jessica Mauboy is not one of them. The 26-year-old singer has been tapped to sing the national anthem at the event. Last Sunday, Mauboy retweeted a comment about it as confirmation.

The retweet reads, “Performing at #ThePeoplesRace has got to be jessicamauboy’s career highlight haha! So stoked!”

Daily Telegraph reports that the organizers had to dump the star at the last minute when it became clear that she wasn’t coming. Radio talkback king Alan Jones suggested in his 2GB morning show that Mauboy’s absence was because she refused to wear the shoes supplied by Myer.

Herald Sun reports that the Mauboy’s representatives admitted “issues over clothing and preparation” and said that the singer was incredibly apologetic for what happened. It is unclear though if the clothing issue was due to the fact that she refused to wear the shoes supplied by the event’s official sponsor. Victorian Racing Club CEO Simon Lowe expressed disappointment at Mauboy in a press statement on Tuesday and thanked singer and Australian Idol runner-up Nadia Aya instead.

"We were very disappointed that Jessica Mauboy was on course, and didn't perform today," he said before adding, “We were grateful that Nadia Aya could perform the national anthem ahead of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.”

Aya was reportedly called to replace Mauboy 30 seconds before she took the stage. Her rendition of the national anthem was well-received.

Prior to the incident, Mauboy was photographed making her way to the Cup. The snap was posted by fashion stylist mikeyayoubi on Instagram. Curiously, she did not show up in any of the marquee tents at the Birdcage.

The “This Ain’t Love Singer” has not issued a statement regarding the disappearing act. Her twitter account has not been updated since Monday.
