Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho promised to give John Terry a new contract to play until the end of the 2015-2016 season because of Terry's outstanding form. According to the manager, there are no doubts that Terry will have another contract and it is just for formality.

Jose Mourinho replaced Rafa Benitez with Terry, who became undeniably the best centre-back in the entire Premier League over the past two seasons. Terry is already 34 years old this month, but the certainty of Mourinho in him is not affected by his age. Mourinho is so sure that his captain is playing at just the same level as when he first arrived as the Chelsea manager in 2004.

"He's a very important player in the team so the next contract sooner or later will come. We in the club, in the board, we know that and I think also you have to feel that," Mourinho said.

The manager further claimed that even without confirmation from the team, people should know that his contract will be extended. He said that Terry is a happy guy who is playing well and he likes his teammates and his manager, not to mention that he works well. For the Chelsea manager, Terry is full of confidence.

The confirmation of Terry's contract happened in May last season. The contract states a basic salary worth of GBP 150,000 every week and bonuses depending on how many games he played.

Chelsea only offers one-year contracts to its players older than 30, but Terry wanted a two-year deal. However, it doesn't change the fact that he is one of the club's highest earners. His new contract is still expected to be profitable and talks with Eden Hazard suggests a new five-year contract worth GBP 200,000 a week. The desire of Mourinho for Terry to stay in his team emphasises his greater happiness with the team, and unlike the previous January window, when Juan Mata was sold and Nemanja Matic was recruited, this kind of transfer is reportedly not expected next month.
